Glidepath gets access denied when starting project

    Hi All

I just installed glidepath yesterday (as Admin) and played around with it for a little bit (again as Admin). Today I tried to make a new glide path project under my own account (LUA) and I get access denied errors. I'm assuming this is because the database file is stored in the 'program files' folder?

I'm guessing the fix is to move the database file to another location that is writable for normal users but I figured you may want to know about this so that you can fix the installers. Also would it be useful to allow users to store their database file per project? That way you can move your data around between computers / team members. Probably a dumb idea but just checking.

    With regards

    Petrik

PS. I took some screenshots of the error message in case anybody is interested.
PPS: My machine: WinXP sp2, 1.5 Gb RAM, AMD Athlon 3000+, .NET 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 all installed

Currently, with Windows Vista, the only viable option for running Visual Studio is either to:

    1. Use an Admin account

    2. Right click on the VS icon and select "Run as Administrator"

    3. Turn UAC off.

This will be addressed by an update to VS2005 in the near future

Re: Glidepath gets access denied when starting project

    Hi Michael

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately that makes glidepath unusable for me for now. I can only run as a normal user :-(

One more thing that you may want to know about is that the installer isn't playing nice. If you install in a different path (say c:\glidepath) than the default one (c:\program files\microsoft\glidepath) things go really wrong during the install. It seems that there are a few parts of the installation that have hard-coded paths to the glidepath directory (the sql connection string, the rss updater etc.). Obviously if the user changes that directory things go wrong. This happens in the glide path factory installer and the microISV installer doesn't figure out the proper directory either.

Just wanted to let you know so that you may be able to change it.

I will investigate as I thought that was being handled properly.  Thanks for the feedback.
